APPLICATION PROCESS

Admission to first year
The application process for admission to 1st Year is generally started several years prior to the intended year of entry, by either requesting an information pack from the school or downloading a registration form.

The completed registration form, together with the registration fee and long birth certificate, should be submitted to the school (usually no later than eighteen months prior to the intended start date).

The current registration fee is €60 (euro). Cheques should be made payable to "Glenstal Abbey School" and crossed "A/C Payee only".

We want to be certain that everyone will benefit from the Glenstal experience. So, in order to assess the suitability of a student, we invite prospective students to come and ‘Live-In’ for a few days, approximately fifteen months before entry. This gives the most realistic assessment of how the environment suits the student. It also means that no one will arrive into a totally alien and unknown environment when they start school here.

After the ‘Live-In’, feedback is provided to the parents/guardians. Those wishing to continue with their application will be invited to attend assessments in the October prior to intended start.

Subsequent to the assessments places will be offered in accordance with the Admissions Policy.

Those wishing to accept a place must do so within the specified time-frame and submit a non-refundable acceptance fee.

On receipt of acceptance fee an enrolment form will be sent out and should be returned by the end of May prior to commencement.

Admission to other years
Admission to any academic year other than 1st Year is conditional on there being a vacancy in that year. Prospective students and the parents/guardians are invited to make an appointment for an interview with the Headmaster, subject there to being a vacancy.

Admission of foreign students
Foreign students whose first language is not English must demonstrate adequate proficiency in English prior to being offered a place.
