Headmaster's
Welcome
As Headmaster, it gives
me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of Glenstal
Abbey School. |
Our school is a seven-day boarding, six-day teaching secondary
school for boys, administered by the Benedictine monks of Glenstal
Abbey. The fact that the school is a work of the monastery
gives it a very particular flavour and context: Glenstal is a place
where a community of monks lives, gathering together several times
a day to praise God and hear his word, while seeking to be attentive
to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The abbey school exists in
order that the young men who come to live and study here may grow
in knowledge and grace. We aim to be partners with parents in forming,
guiding, nurturing, encouraging – and sometimes prodding – our
students to develop their talents and gifts and so grow into what
God has called them to be.
Glenstal is a school which strives for academic and sporting excellence
and tries to provide the best pastoral care possible. But there
is a lot more to the place: We seek to have a school which is shaped
by the life of prayer to which Glenstal Benedictine community is
committed; where the energy and creativity, and the musical, academic
and artistic gifts of the entire school community are harvested,
and somehow restored to God through our shared life of prayer and
praise. We seek to have a school where the liturgy, before which
Saint Benedict says we are to put nothing, is the source and summit
of our life together.
In browsing our site and examining our structures, policies and
news, it is my hope that you will come to understand and appreciate
more fully the nature of our school and the type of education it
seeks to provide. I hope that you like what you find here. If what
you see provokes your interest, please do not hesitate to contact
us.
Pax!
